Mailingtoad - Advanced Features

What are triggers?

In short, triggers are an optional feature of Mailing Toad that allows you to setup and create an automated response system based on a variety of conditions. This allows you to easily create “second touch” email campaigns. You can also use triggers in combination with other features to create an automated lead generation system or even an online greeting card system. For more information, contact your Smoking Toad account executive.

Why do triggers not appear to work even though everything appears to be set up?

Make sure you have “Real Time Reporting” enabled for your account. Also, make sure that if you are using the action “Demographic value equals …” that you are also using a secondary action/condition (such as “When Updates Profile” or “When Joins List”).

Why do I see HTML code appearing in my message when I forward it?

There are known issues with certain email applications (such as Outlook) that add further HTML “wrappers” around your original content. At times, this will cause unsightly code to appear in the message. This typically occurs when using our Email Referral Enhancer. An alternative to this is to use our Web-based email referral function.

Why do my form fields not work in my email?

Certain email applications or computer platforms (such as Mac, AOL Web client) prevent form fields from being supported within the email message either because of system limitations or security concerns. An alternative is to substitute your embedded forms onto a web page instead and simply include a link to that web page in the email.

Why is my Email Referral/Forwarding enhancer not working?

Certain email applications or computer platforms (such as Mac, AOL Web client) prevent form fields from being supported within the email message either because of system limitations or security concerns. An alternative is to substitute your embedded forms onto a web page instead and simply include a link to that web page in the email. You can now use a Web-based referral enhancer instead of the embedded version.

Why do I get a 404 or missing or Forbidden Access message after I forward my message or submit a form in my email?

The most common reason why this occurs is because the redirection source is either not properly formatted and/or does not exist. Try using a different redirection URL. If this still does not work, consider using a web page based alternative to your function.

How do I check to see if my Filter is working properly?

Always verify your newly created filters by clicking on the “View Results” link on the main Filters page (click on “Filters” from my main navigation bar).

What is an Activity Restriction under Filters?

Similar to Demographic Restrictions for Filters, Activity Restrictions allow you to declare conditions for your filter based on prior message activity/history within your mailing list. You can choose to segment based on whether or not persons were sent an email, opened an email, clicked on a link within a specific email, or base it off Random Groups you created prior.
